TestRail 9.6.1.1033 Server

We’re excited to announce the release of TestRail 9.6.1, which introduces a brand-new Getting Started Page, a revamped Sample Project for new onboarding users and updates to the TestRail CLI.

Customers who wish to upgrade to TestRail 9.6.1 can download the installation files from the TestRail Billing Portal.

Please note that our recommended upgrade path is via TestRail 8.0.4. If you’re still running TestRail 7.0 or below, you should follow the path below:

New Getting Started Page 

TestRail 9.6.0 introduces a brand-new Getting Started Page, now available to all users as the central hub for onboarding and feature discovery with:

  • Automatic onboarding: opens automatically for new users at first login and remains accessible anytime from the Help menu.
  • Context-aware guidance: trial accounts see onboarding actions to accelerate evaluation, while paid accounts see resources to support adoption and team enablement.
  • Quick access: integrations, reporting, automation, AI (Cloud only), TestRail Academy, Documentation, Live Demo, and more, all just one click away.
  • Flexible control: users can hide the page when ready, but still reopen it later from the Help menu.

📊 Revamped Sample Project

The Sample Project has been reworked to better demonstrate TestRail’s core capabilities and help new users onboarding faster (also available for trials now).

  • Realistic project structure with test cases, runs, plans, milestones, and dashboards.
  • Mock Jira integration data and pre-generated reports to illustrate traceability and analytics.
  • Automation example with a demo “Execute Automated Tests” button.
  • Fully editable and safe to explore, helping new users understand TestRail without starting from scratch.

  • TR-12842: Markdown tables not displaying correctly

📌 Cassandra Deprecation Enforcement

Starting with TestRail 9.5.1 Server, Cassandra is officially deprecated and enforcement is in place.:

  • Admins must first run the Cassandra deprecation script in version 9.4.1 before upgrading to 9.5.1.

  • If the script has not been executed, the upgrade to 9.5.1. will be blocked and a warning message will be displayed  during the upgrade process.
