Responsible AI Use Guide

AI in TestRail is designed to help you work faster, smarter, and with greater confidence. Like any powerful tool, however, it works best when combined with human expertise, critical thinking, and responsible usage. This guide outlines best practices to help you get the most value from AI features safely, ethically, and effectively.

Review before you rely

AI-generated suggestions are based on patterns in data and may occasionally produce incomplete, inaccurate, or irrelevant content.

Always review, validate, and refine AI-generated outputs before using them in test cases, plans, reports, or documentation.

AI can help accelerate your workflow, but the final decisions and content remain your responsibility.

Use AI to assist, not replace expertise

AI is designed to support your work, not replace your judgement or domain knowledge.

Use AI to:

  • Generate ideas and draft test cases

  • Improve test coverage

  • Speed up repetitive documentation tasks

  • Explore alternative scenarios and edge cases

AI does not truly understand your product, customers, workflows, or business context the way your team does.

For regulatory, legal, compliance, or safety-critical environments, AI outputs should never be treated as the sole source of truth.

Use AI responsibly

To help maintain a safe and trustworthy experience for everyone, please use AI features responsibly.

Do not:

  • Attempt prompt injection or system manipulation

  • Submit malicious, deceptive, or harmful content

  • Use AI to impersonate individuals or generate misleading information

  • Intentionally misuse generated outputs

Important: Misuse of AI features may result in restricted access and could violate TestRail’s AI Terms of Use .

We are committed to building responsible AI experiences, and responsible usage is a shared responsibility.

Protect sensitive information

Avoid including sensitive or confidential information in prompts whenever possible, including:

  • Personally identifiable information (PII)

  • Production credentials or access tokens

  • Customer secrets or proprietary data

  • Protected health information (PHI)

While our AI systems are designed with security and privacy in mind, minimising sensitive data exposure is always considered best practice.

Follow your organisation’s policies

Your organisation may have additional policies or compliance requirements regarding AI usage. Before using AI features in regulated or sensitive workflows:

  • Consult your security, legal, or compliance teams when needed

  • Ensure AI usage aligns with internal company guidelines

  • Follow any applicable data governance or retention policies

Help us improve

AI technology continues to evolve, and so does TestRail. Your feedback helps improve the quality, safety, and usefulness of AI-powered experiences. If you encounter issues, unexpected behaviour, or inaccurate results, please report them through TestRail Support.

We are committed to responsible AI development that prioritises transparency, safety, reliability, and customer trust.
