Overview
Additional language changes in the TestRail UI were solely supported by the Server Plans and required that customers prepare their own custom language translation files (click here for custom language translation in TestRail Server).
Now, as of TestRail 9.2, you can choose between English, German, French, and Spanish as supported languages to TestRail Cloud and Enterprise plans, without users having to upload translation files. By expanding language support this way, TestRail is now accessible to an even wider global user base, offering several advantages across multiple aspects.
TestRail Server instances will retain the existing functionality that enables customers to upload and use custom translations.
Instance default language
Inside a TestRail Cloud instance, administrators can change other users’ user language. By doing this, instance administrators will change the language for all the users that have “Use application default” as their selected Language, as mentioned in the next section, which is the case for new users that are added to the instance.
To change the entire instance’s default language as an administrator:
- Navigate to Admin > Site Settings.
- Under the Default Language dropdown, select your preferred language (English, German, French, or Spanish).
- Click Save Settings for the changes to apply to the entire instance.
This setting also updates the language on the instance's login page.
User language
Inside TestRail Cloud, users can override the instance's default language. Changing the user language will only change the UI language for that specific user.
Users can change their preferred language by:
-
Clicking on their username in the top-right corner and selecting My Settings.
-
Under the User tab, find the Language dropdown.
-
Choose your desired language or select "Use application default" to follow the instance setting.
- Click Save Settings to apply changes.
You can also leave the default option “Use application default” which simply sets the language the Admin chose for the whole instance as default.
